IT'S A DATE.

 

The two Queens cafe trolling nation-wide to find the perfect date scone. Ratio of butter to scone just as important as the amount of dates per scone.

Date Orange + Ginger Beer Scones

2 c dates (soaked in boiling water)
3 c plain flour
4 heaped tsp baking powder
2 tsp cinnamon
1 zest of orange
1 c ginger beer
3/4 c cream
1 tbsp sugar

Preheat oven to 180 degrees

Strain dates.
In a bowl combine all the ingredients.
Use a knife to combine the mixture.
Add a little more cream if too dry.
Turn out onto a floured surface.
Flour the top.
Use your hands to gently mould the dough into a circle.
You want it to be around 4-5cm thick.
Either cut into 8 or use a floured ring cutter.
Place scones onto a baking tray.
Brush with a little milk and sprinkle sugar on top.
Bake for 18-20 minutes or until golden.
Dust with a little icing sugar.
Serve warm with butter and marmalade.
